What Is a Russian Manicure?
A Russian manicure — also called a dry manicure or e-file manicure — is a precision nail-care technique performed without soaking. Instead of pushing cuticles back, our technicians use a fine electric file to gently remove the cuticle and the thin dry skin around the nail plate. The result is a perfectly clean nail contour, so gel polish can be applied almost under the cuticle line.
Because the nail is prepped dry and the gel sits closer to the skin, a Russian manicure looks flawless longer: the grow-out line appears later and softer than with a classic manicure. Most of our clients in Manhattan come back every 3–4 weeks — not because the gel chipped, but simply because the nails grew.

The Ritual
How your appointment goes.
Every Russian manicure at KRASIVO follows the same unhurried ritual — 75 to 120 minutes built around your nails, not the clock.
- 1
Consultation and shaping.
We start with your natural nails: shape, length, lifestyle. Almond, square, oval — your master shapes each nail by hand and helps you choose between a long-wear gel finish and an elegant natural look.
- 2
E-file cuticle work.
The signature step. With a fine electric file and sterilized bits, your technician gently lifts away the cuticle and dry skin around each nail — no soaking, no cutting of living tissue. This is the precision the technique is famous for.
- 3
Gel at the cuticle line.
Gel polish is applied almost under the cuticle line, so regrowth stays invisible far longer. We work with premium gel systems chosen for durability and nail health.
- 4
Finish and aftercare.
A hand massage with luxury balm, a final check of every edge — and simple aftercare guide for the weeks ahead.
For You If
Who is it for?
A Russian manicure is ideal if you want gel that grows out invisibly, if your cuticles grow quickly or unevenly, or if you simply love the cleanest possible nail contour. It suits natural nails and extensions alike — and it is what our regulars across Chelsea, Flatiron, NoMad and Midtown choose for 3–4 weeks of flawless wear.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — when performed by a trained technician with sterilized instruments. The e-file removes only dead skin; it never touches the living tissue. Our specialists are trained specifically in this technique, and all tools are sterilized and sealed before every appointment.
With gel polish, 3–4 weeks. Because cuticles are removed rather than pushed back, the manicure looks fresh noticeably longer than a classic one.
A regular manicure soaks the hands and pushes cuticles back; polish stops short of the cuticle line. A Russian manicure is done dry, the cuticle is removed with an e-file, and gel is applied nearly under the skin line — cleaner look, longer wear.
Plan for about 75–120 minutes. The technique is more detailed than a standard manicure — precision takes time, and we never rush it.
We work by appointment to guarantee every client the full time the technique requires. Online booking takes about a minute.

No — done correctly, it is one of the gentlest techniques there is. The e-file touches only dead skin, never the living nail plate. Damage comes from rushed work or improper removal; our masters are trained specifically to avoid both.
Absolutely. The e-file cuticle work looks stunning on natural nails too — clean, glass-smooth, elegant. Many clients choose a natural finish with strengthening care instead of gel.
Usually, yes. With no soaking and no aggressive pushing, the dry technique suits delicate nails well. Mention it at the start of your appointment and your master will adapt the approach.
Yes — the same e-file precision, for Russian pedicures.
